Hi! I’m Doğa, a 6th-year student at Marmara University School of Medicine. ? Throughout my medical school journey, I’ve had the opportunity to explore different clinical fields, take part in various research projects, see studies I contributed to published in national and international journals, complete an elective abroad, and attend national and international congresses. For now, I’m interested in surgical specialties. After my elective at the University of Bologna School of Medicine sparked my interest, I aim to develop myself particularly in otorhinolaryngology (ENT). I was also a mentor in the peer mentorship program last year and really enjoyed it. I hope this year will also be one in which both mentors and mentees gain a lot. What I hope for from the mentorship program is a good connection where we can look for solutions together to the questions and challenges you may face in faculty life, chat comfortably and share our experiences. While sharing my own experiences, I’d like to support you in discovering your interests, setting your goals and finding the path that suits you best. Of course, I don’t think this process is one-sided; I believe we have a lot to learn from each other. Outside of medicine and academia, I also like to make time for myself. Doing sports, learning foreign languages, traveling, watching films and reading whenever I get the chance are some of the things I enjoy most. I believe that amid the busy pace of medical school, it’s important to make time for ourselves and keep the things that make us happy in our lives. In short, I want to be not just a mentor who shares experiences, but a companion you can easily reach out to whenever you need, someone to learn new things with and make this process enjoyable together. Here’s to a year full of great experiences. |
Hi ?? I’m Çağrı, a 6th-year student at Marmara University School of Medicine. I’m very excited to be joining you as a mentor this year, sharing the experiences I’ve gained in medical school and accompanying friends who are forging their own paths.
I’ve had the opportunity to gain experience in different fields and abroad. Student clubs, which I see as an essential part of faculty life, have also played an important role in my journey. By taking part in the work of the Turkish Medical Students’ International Committee (TurkMSIC), both at our school and at the national level, I gained a wide range of experience ❤️?. This helped me discover myself and my interests, and map out the path I need to take to become the doctor I want to be.
I was also a mentor last year and really enjoyed it. Sharing my experiences, looking for solutions together and watching my mentees grow were the best parts of this program for me.
In this program, drawing on the challenges I’ve faced and the lessons I’ve learned, I aim to make faculty life and your journey through it a little easier. I believe I can support you in exploring the specialties you’re considering, weighing your options and drawing up a roadmap that fits your interests.
Outside of medicine, learning foreign languages and improving my language skills is one of the things I enjoy most ?. I love watching and reading content in different languages and using what I learn in everyday life. Whenever the busy pace of medical school allows, I also love to travel ✈️.
I see medical school as a time to experience as much as we can, both academically and socially. I believe that by learning together and drawing on each other’s experiences, we can sometimes climb the stairs not one step at a time, but three at a time. My goal is to make the most of the opportunities the faculty offers while respecting our own pace and needs, and to collect experiences that make us say “So glad I did!” when we look back. I can’t wait for the journey we’ll take together ☺️.

Hey there! ? I'm Feyza Şule Aslan, a final-year medical student at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine. Since starting medical school, I've always been eager to explore different fields, gain new experiences, and get involved in research, social projects, and student organizations. I believe medical school is about much more than exams; it's also about the people we meet, the connections we build, and the experiences we gain along the way. ✨ My academic interests mainly focus on ophthalmology, neuroscience, and translational research. Since my early years in medical school, I've been involved in various research projects, contributed to publications in national and international scientific journals, and presented my work at academic conferences. My laboratory internship in the United States and clinical internship in Germany gave me the opportunity to experience different research environments and healthcare systems. In the future, I hope to pursue a career in ophthalmology that combines clinical practice with scientific research. ??♀️ Outside of medicine, I enjoy traveling, exploring different cultures, meeting new people, and creating medical illustrations. I'm also interested in Stoic philosophy, particularly its emphasis on focusing on what we can control and navigating uncertainty. Throughout medical school, I've learned (and am still learning) how important time management is and how challenging it can be to balance academic responsibilities, clinical training, and social life. Being involved in student organizations and collaborative projects has also taught me the value of teamwork and learning from one another. Last year, I participated in this program as a mentor, while also having the opportunity to receive mentorship as a mentee during my own academic journey. Experiencing both sides helped me appreciate how meaningful mutual trust, open communication, and shared experiences can be. I know how overwhelming the early years of medical school can feel, from choosing the right study resources and exploring opportunities to figuring out your future career path. I believe everyone has different goals and priorities, and there is no single right path for everyone. As a mentor, I'd love to support you with study strategies, research opportunities, clinical rotations, and time management. I'm also happy to share my experiences with international research and clinical internships, language learning, USMLE preparation, and pathways to practicing medicine in Europe. Rather than simply providing answers, my goal is to create a welcoming space where we can explore different options together. After all, sometimes hearing from someone who has already walked a similar path can make all the difference. ✨ |
Hi! ? I’m Toprak, a 6th-year student at Marmara Medicine.
When we first started medical school, one of our professors told us that after a while it would become harder to communicate with people who don’t study medicine. Back then, it sounded meaningless to me ? But once most of my life started revolving around medicine, I realized how much easier it is to talk to someone walking the same path. I wish I could sit down with my preclinical self and tell him, “Don’t worry so much about the near future.” Committees, exam results, “Am I in the right place?” questions… They all feel huge at that stage, but looking back, you see that most of them work themselves out over time.
I’d like to have that conversation with you now. After five years in medical school, I can help you with the following, drawing on my own experience:
? Settling in and feeling like you belong
? The chaos of studying medicine in English: learning medical terminology and the language at the same time
? The committee system and how to study: which resources, which methods, how to plan your time?
? The transition to clinical years: what awaits you in rotations, and how can you start preparing now?
? What lies ahead in the long run, and was Marmara Medicine the right choice?
Of course, medical school isn’t only about classes. During my first three years, I was actively involved in student organizations such as the Medical Students’ Association and the Marmara Ski Club ⛷️, and took part in in vitro research in the lab ?. We can also talk about which club to join, where to start with research, and how to balance classes with social life.
Feel free to ask me anything. See you soon! ?
